About Us

The Writers Pitch Book began as an exclusive service available only to writers who attended the UNF (University of North Florida) Writers Conference, August 2009.

So many writers who did not attend the 2010 UNF Writers Conference asked if they could purchase a pitch in the Pitch Book that we opened Writers Pitch Book to all writers.

  1. I got this in an email. What’s the deal. Are you trying to sell me something?

    • Sharon Y Cobb says:

      Not unless you want to buy a pitch in the next Writers Pitch Book. I appreciate you submitting your comment and will take you off my personal email list. If you have a book or script you’d like agents, editor or Hollywood producers to see, consider pitching in the Fall 2011 Writers Pitch Book.

  2. I want to be a part of U of North Florida. Please follow up with me. I need your guidance.

      Hi Darshaun, Thanks for your interest in University of North Florida (UNF). I assume you mean the Writers Conference held each August at UNF, right? I checked your website and noticed you are an author. Are you interested in attending as a participant or as a faculty member?
      Thanks! Sharon

    Sharon,
    In the every changing world of legacy publishing vs. the new indie publishing world, is writers pitch a good idea for someone who is interested in pitching the film rights, but is trying to retain the elctronic and paper rights to the book via indie publishing? Actually, I would sell the paper rights, because it is becomming all about the E-Rights. But, 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago, it was a far simpler world in publishing and today there are mulitiple options to an author to build a platform, gain a readership, and flurish selling their story. I am nearing the final draft of a novel, which unless something of a miracle happens in legacy publishing, I intend to self publish. But at the same time I am looking to pitch the movie rights quickly. Make sense?

    • Sharon Y Cobb says:

      Hi David, Thanks for your comments and your email. You’re definitely on the right path. And you do understand a lot about the changing book publishing world. I think it’s a great idea to promote the film rights for your story since film production companies in Hollywood are always buying film rights to adapt books into movies. Hope to see you in the Spring 2012 Pitch Book!
      Sharon

  4. Hi Sharon;

    I am a recently self-published author that (I believe) would make an excellent movie.
    It is a psychological thriller (Fiction) that captures the reader. I would like t promote this book in every way possible, but financial situation limits my taking advantage of complete marketing services currently offered. What would I have to pay to get my book “Pitched” by an expert such as yourself? I am currently writing a sequal to my published book.

    • Sharon Y Cobb says:

      Hi Ronne, Congrats on publishing your book. Thriller is definitely a genre Hollywood producers like. Usually thrillers are less expensive to produce, therefore it’s less of a gamble for them. And, of course, the studios certainly know how to market a thriller. I appreciate your query about paying an expert to pitch your book, but maybe you should consider submitting a pitch to the next Writers Pitch Book Fall 2012. We have a special section for books that authors believe would make great films: TV & Film Rights. I’ve also started adding the book cover image to that section (part of the price of submitting your pitch to that special section). Producers buy film rights to books often and they don’t necessarily have to be big blockbuster books. Hope you check back with us when we open the Pitch Book for submissions again in the fall:

      FALL 2012 WRITERS PITCH BOOK
      Writers Pitch Book Opens for Fall 2012 Submissions: July 1, 2012
      Writers’ Submission Deadline: Friday, August 31, 2012, midnight
      Distribution to Agents, Editors and Film Producers: Week of October 1, 2012

      • Dear Sharon;
        Thank you so much for your response but I am still a little confused. I would really like to sign up before the August 31st
        2012 deadline but I don’t know what this would entail. Is there a cost involved and,if so, how much? Also, I could not travel if I had to attend in person. So I am in a dillema here. Could you do me the kindness of being a little more specific as to what this might be required of me? If necessary, I could send a paperback copy of my book for review. Thank you in advance for your response. Ronne Teselsky (Author of JACOB SUTTER)

  5. Sharon, I really need to know the cost of this endeavor so I know if I can take advantage of it or not. Please let meknow what the cost is to subscribe and what all it offers
